Never did I think I would be doing a Kylie Lip Kit review, not because I have anything against Kylie, but simply because I never thought I would be able to get my hands on one! As one of the most talked about items in make-up at the moment, it was by pure luck I was able to get a lip kit when the second batch was released, when the collection, yet again, sold out in 30 seconds.
I purchased the Candy K lip kit, which seemed like an ideal shade for me – neutral, but still had a “pop” to it. I had heard that some people were experiencing serious shipping delays when the first batch was released, so I was pleasantly surprised when I received mine a week-and-a-half later (which is still a pretty long time to wait).
The kit comes with the lipstick and a lip liner, which, whoops, I didn’t even realize, so imagine my surprise! Immediately the packaging stuck out to me – packaging design is a huge factor for some people when deciding to purchase a product, and I do think Kylie and her team put this into serious consideration. Also, I really like the faint butterscotch scent of Candy K. I was happy with how well it applies, and I was impressed with how long the application lasted without fading or looking dried out.
My tip using this product, as with any matte lip, would be to exfoliate your lips with a product like the Lush Mint Julips, as well as with chapstick, before application, so your lips don’t look overly dried out. It’s beneficial to carry some lip balm with you throughout the day when wearing any matte lip stick.
Good fortune graced me again when the third batch of Lip Kit by Kylie was released with three new colors. While I did like Candy K’s color, it was a bit too nude for my taste. The third batch featured the release of Koko K, Mary Jo K, and Posie K, the latter is the color I snagged.
Description from the website: “This ultra-long wearing lip liner has a creamy texture that glides across the lips for a very easy and comfortable application. The Lip Liner sharpens easily in most standard sized sharpeners – just make sure your sharpener is not dull!”
It seems like Kylie and her team got their customer service issues somewhat resolved this time around. It did take about an hour to receive a confirmation email that my purchase went through, and I received a shipping confirmation the next day. My lip kit arrived just 3 days after placing my order, which was much sooner than my previous order, which took over a week-and-a-half to arrive. Kylie also stepped up her packaging game, as you can see below, and also included a sweet thank-you note.
Here are the swatches of Posie K (left) and Candy K (right). I definitely prefer Posie K over Candy K, and will be purchasing again. Posie K has a mauve tone to it, while Candy K is a pink-y brown (I’m awesome at describing colors, right?). Again, I was really happy with its lasting wear, and have been wearing Posie K every day since it arrived.
What you should know:
- These lip kits have a 12-month life shelf, as indicated on the bottom of the matte lip tube with the open bottle symbol
- They are cruelty-free (thank you for the info Katie D!)
- The lip liners do not have a bottom that turns to reveal more lip liner, but you can use a sharper to get more lip liner.
- My order, including shipping, cost $37.95 total for one lip kit. This included the new packaging and note.
- It also appears that the brand name has been changed from Lip Kit by Kylie to Kylie Cosmetics – could this mean that we can expect new make-up releases.

P.S. I’ve been more conscious of what make-up brands I purchase, especially if it’s cruelty-free. If you have any fav cruelty-free make-up brands, please share in the comments!
