Cozy Home Ideas and Tips

With the winter months officially here, I’ve become focused on making my space the coziest it can be. While I’m sure there is much more of my time (and money) that could be spent on other things, having a comfy, warm home is important. What’s better than coming home after a long day to a warm and cozy home where you can relax?

Even the experts agree, our home needs “to be the place where we can take both personal and physical refuge.” Between scents, decor pieces, and plants, there is so much you can do to make your space a sanctuary. Here are some of my tips to creating a perfect nesting space without spending beaucoup bucks.

Scents and Candles –  Personally, I find scents like vanilla and lavender to really calm and relax me, and I enjoy having a candle burning often. The soft glow of a burning, scented candle really does create an inviting environment. This chalkboard soy candle from Mine Design Home is a fun way to add a personal touch. And this Wasabi Pear Reed Diffuser from Nest Fragrances fills my room with a delicious scent. Reed diffusers keep your room smelling great all day, without having to light a candle, and also look elegant.

Invite Nature Inside – Fresh flowers are a lovely way to add color and fragrance into your home. I also really enjoy succulents (check out this link for more info on succulent care). Since we don’t see a ton of lush green in the winter, it’s nice to have it inside your home. I also have two beautiful beta fish, which is another great way to invite nature inside.

Lighting is Key  – One of my favorite things is utilizing fairy lights to create a cozy, magical environment, as they create a calming ambiance. These Stargazer fairy lights from Terrain are a bit pricey, but their copper wiring allows them to be twisted into different shapes to be placed around different objects, if you’d like.

Pieces that are unique to you – I’ve recently become interested in crystals and incorporating them into my decor, which I’ve bought and collected over the years. They are beautiful to look at and also provide a positive energy. I received this Gem & Mineral calendar for Christmas, and when I eventually hang up on my wall, will keep me better organized. I also recently purchased this Wild Medicine crystal infused soap from Haus Witch, which is another fun way to incorporate crystals into your home. I’m also a Capricorn, and couldn’t pass up this dish from Anthropologie. *If you’re interested in a full blog post on crystals, let me know!*

I grow a garden during the spring and summer and really miss the greenery during the winter months. I like your idea of bringing some flowers into the home. Great list!
