VStreet Philadelphia

My quest for the healthiest, most delicious foods in Philadelphia continues, and V Street in Rittenhouse Square may be the Holy Grail of them all. My mom and I recently had lunch here and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The cuisine here is inspired by street foods from around the world, using flavors can that be found in Asia and South America, and is 100% vegan. It was founded by Chefs Rich Landau and Kate Jacoby, who also created Vedge.

Background on my eating habits: I am not a picky eater by any means, I am not always the healthiest eater, and I am completely new to the vegan world. While I am not vegan (working towards vegetarian), I’ve been taking steps to educate myself and make smarter choices when it comes to the food I eat. I was really excited when my mom suggested we try out V Street; I felt like this could be the beginning to a beautiful new friendship with food.

The cool, minimalistic, industrial decor was definitely an indicator that the meal we would soon enjoy would be interesting and “clean” (#cleaneating).

We decided to go tapas style and ordered three dishes: the Cauliflower “65” with curry sauce, the Mushroom Feijoada Tacos and the Dan Dan noodles. I would recommend going tapas – the individual plates are enough for a meal, but they are also ideal for sharing. Also the menu is small, so it’s easy to try a good portion of the menu.

The Cauliflower “65” was absolutely delicious and hearty, and was the perfect way to kick off our meal. The Dan Dan Noodles with zucchini and mushrooms was the best kind of spicy, and is an ideal comfort dish. The mushroom taco was my absolute favorite though; the flavors of the black beans and Cole slaw mixing together was amazing. Best of all, at the end of my meal, I left feeling full and satisfied.

Every dish is unique, and it’s easy to see the inspiration come through from different cuisines from around the world; it all works beautifully. There is also a very enticing bar menu, which I will have to try when I go back.

I really think V Street’s menu appeals to those of us who don’t always eat their veggies – it’s just about giving this kind of food a chance. Vegan eating tastes really good!
