Fall in the Philadelphia Area

Put on that cozy knit sweater, button up that flannel, and sip on some mulled cider. Fall is here, and it’s time to celebrate. There’s something about this season that gives me that “fresh start” feeling, and I want to enjoy every second of it.

I’m excited to plan out some fun fall trips and events, so I decided to list out my favorite things to do and see around Philly during this season. I asked on Insta for my friends’ favorite fall Philly spots too, and they did not disappoint (thanks guys!). From places my family visited when we were younger, to more grown-up spots, I hope you’ll enjoy these places as much as I do.

Just walking around Philly’s parks and the streets can get you into the fall spirit. Enjoy a morning in Philly by discovering murals around the city, or have a nice stroll along Kelly DriveFairmount Park, or Rittenhouse Square.

The season isn’t complete without an Oktoberfest. Brauhaus Schmitz is always a good time, where you can have a seasonal brew and eat authentic German cuisine. I was there a few weekends ago for what I believe was their first Oktoberfest, and it was the perfect way to kick-off the fall season.

If you are a horror-junkie, then Eastern State Penitentiary’s Terror Behind the Walls is perfect for you – just not for me. It was probably the worst experience of my life (anything and everything scares me) so I guess I can say they did a pretty good job, right?

From my Instagram pictures and previous post, it’s pretty easy to see why I love Terrain so much. It’s the ultimate place to get into the fall spirit and purchase autumnal decor. Between shopping, admiring all of the plants, and brunch you can have a perfect afternoon here. And it’s even better when they have the fire pit going!

Linvilla Orchards is an annual visit for any kid who grew up in the Philly area. From apple picking, pumpkin picking, and hayrides, you can find everything you want in fall at Linvilla.  I also picked up a pumpkin from Linvilla to do this fun craft a few years ago after a day of apple picking in the orchards. Don’t forget to bring home their apple cider, too!

If you’re looking to escape the city, there are so many parks and gardens to explore just a few miles away from Center City. The Tyler Arboretum in Media is one of the oldest arboretums in the U.S. and is a beautiful place to visit. Their annual Pumpkin Days is not to be missed. I remember as a kid making scarecrows, going through a corn maze and painting pumpkins…and I still want to do all of the same things as a semi-adult.

Just 16 miles away from Philly, Ridley Creek State Park is a beauty of a park where you can walk, go for a run, or ride a bike and enjoy the changing color of the leaves. There’s a river that runs through the park, which makes for a quiet and peaceful environment. Just don’t get lost like my friend and I did the last time we were there (a very true story).

No matter the time of year, Longwood Gardens is always a magnificent place to visit, and now is the perfect time to see their Autumn Colors.  Their light and sound experience Nightscape is happening until October 29th, so there’s even more to do at night. It’s one of my most favorite places in the area.

There is so much to do in and around Philadelphia, you certainly won’t have a storage of fall activities. Let me know if there are any fun places I missed, and how and where do you like to celebrate fall. 🙂

Off to go light a spice-scented candle now, happy Fall all <3

I’ve lived in Philly for 4 years and have never been to Terror Behind The Walls. I’m like you, it’s not for me!

Yea it was absolutely terrifying, I was not OK after it was over. BUT I would like to go back to Eastern State Penitentiary, sans haunted house, for an actual tour!

I’ve never been to Philly, but my boyfriend lives in Pittsburgh for now so I’ve been spending a lot of time in PA this past year…might have to convince him that a fall road trip over to Philly is in order!

I love Philly so much, this post really made me want to plan a Fall trip (I’m not far away here in Baltimore)

Eastern State Penitentiary is very neat. I’ve been to the haunted attraction but even just the regular tour is pretty fascinating.

Hi Camille! I’ve never been to Philadelphia but your photos make it look like it’s worth a visit, especially in the fall. I love how the east coast has beautiful fall leaves. We live in San Francisco and most areas have evergreen trees 🙁 Thanks for sharing!
