Autumn in New England

Sometimes all it takes to feel recharged is a weekend away with friends, which is exactly what happened this past weekend. My friends Grace and Rebecca, and myself, headed up to Old Saybrook, Connecticut to visit their families (thank you Karen for having us!) and to have a quintessential New England weekend.

The autumn season always gives me that “refresh and renew” feeling – does anyone else experience this? I don’t know if it’s the leaves changing color and nature preparing to start over again for the spring months, but fall motivates me to get out and live life, get organized, and recharge (check out this article by Andrew W.K. for a much better explanation of the feeling I’m failing at describing). There was nothing quite like this weekend to get us all into that fall spirit.

I was especially looking forward to the long train ride up to Connecticut, which was especially relaxing. I was able to finally finish The Girl on the Train (I need to talk to someone else about it ASAP), listen to and fully appreciate Lady Gaga’s new album Joanne, and take in the autumn scenery.

Arriving into Old Saybrook was like a breath of fresh air, it’s so beautiful. Karen made us feel right at home!

We headed off to explore the town and the beach, where we braved the wind.

In town, we had the best Bloody Marys at local bar The Rabbit Hole, and I purchased this awesome crystal soap from Southern Exposure.

Crystal soap – amazing

Before we set out to watch Penn State beat Ohio State later that day (YESSSSSSSSS), we had another fall activity to cross of our list: carve pumpkins, watch Hocus Pocus, and sip on hot chocolate. We were cozy and content to the max

Sunday afternoon was well spent having brunch with Rebecca’s family at the Paperback Cafe (thank you for brunch Mr. Dvorin!), where a live jazz band played while we enjoyed our meals.

So that was a glimpse into our lovely NE weekend! I hope you have an awesome rest of your fall and a great Halloween. <3
