CorePower Yoga Philadelphia

Happy December guys! I hope your month is going well and that you’re in the festive holiday spirit and not feeling too stressed out!

I’ve been warding off the holiday stress with yoga recently. As much as I love all things zen and meditative, I oddly enough never got into yoga much. I took a few classes here and there (and watched some YouTube videos), but it was something I always wanted to get into more. I recently started taking some classes at CorePower Yoga in Center City, who reached out to me about checking out some classes and was awesome in setting me up with a free month of classes.

There are quite a few CorePower Yoga locations throughout the country, and the Philly location arrived just last year. Also, there are TWO new locations opening up in the Philadelphia area – the North Wales location is opening this weekend, and the Cherry Hill location is opening very soon.

As excited as I was to take my first class, I was also pretty nervous as a hot yoga newbie, let alone a yoga newbie. I arrived after work early for class to become familiar with the facility and get changed (I should also mention their changing facilities, furnished with lockers and showers). But there was absolutely nothing for me to be nervous about for my first C1 class.

If you’re a yoga beginner like me, the C1 class was great. Although no heat is added in C1, the room was still toasty from the previous class. When I say I broke a sweat, I mean it – it was a hot, sweaty, pretty intense workout. Sara the instructor was amazing, and took the time to make sure I was doing my variations properly (not to mention played a killer playlist). I went back the following week for another C1 class with my friend Kelly, where I also ran into Melissa of Skinny Affair!

It was a fantastic workout, yet I still felt very relaxed and in a much better state of mind after class. I didn’t realize how much a yoga workout would help during the rush of the holidays, as I felt recharged and fully worked-out.  One thing I learned was that a sturdy, doesn’t-get-slippery mat is definitely preferred – sorry to my hot pink mat, but you are not equipped for hot yoga.

If you’re still on a the fence about yoga, you can take an entire week of classes for free at CorePower. And if it’s your first time there, your towel and yoga mat rental are free (if you need them). They offer a variety of classes, some being heated and some not. Although, I must say during the cold winter months, a heated class sounds ideal.

I think I’m going to stick with C1 classes for a bit until I feel completely comfortable with laying down my yoga “foundation.” When the time comes, I’m really looking forward to taking their signature C2 class. Knowing the yoga mantra “where you are is exactly where you’re supposed to be” definitely inspires me to keep at it until I feel ready for the next level up.

So if you’re new to yoga, looking for a New Year’s Resolution inspiration, or are interested in CorePower, definitely give it a shot. I am really enjoying these classes.

Thank you CorePower Yoga and Turner PR for setting up my membership!

I really love those decorations in the studio!!!! Those are very stylish. I’m glad you’ve become more into yoga than before and I totally agree with needing a GOOD mat that is not slippery. I’m still trying to find the perfect one. It’d be great if you did a post about mats if you haven’t already !!!! (:

Thank you for your comment Kit and for the post suggestion! I wish I knew beforehand how important a solid mat would be lol! I just received a new mat for Christmas, I’ll definitely get you the brand name and do a post! <3
