Unlike the Biebs, I don’t mean the title of this post in a sarcastic tone. I mean it very sincerely, in fact – you should go and show yourself some love. <3 It’s a pretty crazy time we’re living in right now, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed with work, school, world events – just life. We often forget to check in on ourselves; I have to remind myself it’s more than OK to take time for myself and that it’s not selfish to take care of myself. When I’m relaxed, refreshed and replenished, I’m my best self. And when I’m my best self, I’m better to those around me.
It’s important to check in with yourself, and with Valentine’s Day around the corner…
I’ve written posts in the past about how to decompress and how creating your own zen and comfy environment has wonderful benefits. I wanted to create a bit of an updated post with how I “self-care”.
The hygge lifestyle, living a life that encompasses all this joyous, cozy, and pleasant, is making it’s way from its origins in Denmark to the States, and in a way, it’s a form of self-care. Whether it’s “practiced” by lighting a scented candle, drinking a cup of tea or wrapping yourself in a blanket, hygge can be a comforting and cozy way to unwind.

Here are some ways I like to take care of myself:
- Unplug – I have been hardcore struggling with this, but the nights I put down my phone an hour early before bed, I feel less stressed and fall asleep more quickly.
- Change up your routine – Whether it’s visiting a new coffee shop or walking a different way to class/work, I’ve found that switching up my routine makes me appreciate my surroundings more. For more ideas on how to change up your routine, check out Kasia from Ampersand’s post on how to take back your morning.
- Move -The mental/emotional benefits of exercising are no secret. I’ve been doing SoulCyle and CorePower Yoga recently (promise this is not an ad!) and I feel awesome after class. There’s nothing like feeling empowered and inspired after a tough workout.
- Don’t forget your dreams, goals, ambitions – It’s easy to be caught up in day-to-day tasks, so much so that we might forget to daydream. Write down the things you want to accomplish, what you have accomplished, what makes you happy, etc. There’s something so satisfying about taking a pen to paper and writing these things down.
What’s going on in your life now? How do you “self-care”?
Happy Valentine’s Day, love you all <3
