Person of Interest: Nicole Carter

Welcome to the first Person of Interest interview of 2018! Throughout 2017, I met some amazing people who are doing impressive things, and I’m so excited for what 2018 has in store. One of the things I love about this series is being able to chat to and learn from some incredible and inspiring women. And today’s Person of Interest is an amazing business woman, from right here in Philadelphia! Meet Nicole Carter, a Philadelphia realtor who is all about showing the rest of the world why Philly is a fantastic place to live. We recently met up about talked about how we stay motivated, our goals and why we both love Philly so much. Hi Nicole, tell us a bit about yourself!

I am 44 years old and am a native to Philadelphia. I grew up about 15 minutes outside of the city and I have lived downtown now for over 19 years. I am a foodie and I love to check out new restaurants in the city with my husband. I love animals, especially my dog Sasha and my cat Max. I enjoy traveling and in the summer, there is no place I would rather be than the beach :).

How did you begin your business?

My aunt was a real estate agent when I was growing up, so real estate was in the family. The business definitely started to interest me as I got a bit older. I started selling real estate in 2005 during  a very strong market. Unfortunately, a few years later the market crashed. As a relatively new agent, this was hard to deal with. I learned a lot from working in both favorable and unfavorable markets and this has contributed to me becoming the successful agent that I am today. I love what I do and I would not change it for the world!

What motivates you/what drives you?

What drives me as a an agent is to ensure that I provide the most professional, loyal and dedicated service. With a professional yet friendly approach, I help clients feel comfortable about what can be a stressful decision. Trust is hard to come by in today’s fiercely competitive real estate market. I am here to provide clients with the professionalism and integrity needed to ensure that they feel secure in what can be one of the biggest decisions of their life.

What are some of your favorite things about Philadelphia?

I love Philadelphia for so many reasons but some of my most favorite things about the city are its walkability, its amazing restaurants, and its history.  Its close proximity to NYC, DC, The beaches of the Jersey Shore and The Poconos are a plus, too.

Do you have any advice for someone who is looking to start their own business?

At this point in my life, I have to admit that I want to live a certain lifestyle and in order to live that lifestyle, I must work hard and make money. As a Real Estate agent your hours can be long and odd so it is important to learn how to work hard but also enjoy your time off as well. I love being my own boss!  It is all about what you want to put into your business and what you want to get out of it.  You set your own goals, but in order to be successful you must stick to your goals and meet them!
