Tell us a little bit about yourself!

My name is Andie Aronow, I’m 29 years old and live in Brooklyn, NY! I am a native New Yorker; I was born and raised in Manhattan and started my career in the music industry at the age of 8 as a professional jingle singer! As I grew up, I continued singing and performing, but found myself passionate about business of music. I graduated with a BFA in Recorded Music from the Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and have since worked in many areas of the music industry including digital music marketing, music promotions, artist management, event planning, music supervision, A&R and executive music production. I am currently the head of Music Supervision for PBandJ Partners, a TV commercial production company. I also do A&R, sales and executive production for Headroom dB, the industry’s newest resource for indie artist-driven cover tracks for placement in film, TV, trailers and advertisements.

Additionally, I am the Founder of Women That Rock, a music curation & discovery platform that is dedicated to promoting and supporting the best up-and-coming women in music. With daily artist features, promotions, articles & events, Women That Rock seeks to lift up badass ladies making waves in the music world and to foster a community of women supporting one another through music.

Why did you begin Women That Rock?

I started Women That Rock as a way to provide a unique platform for up-and-coming, developing women musicians. Through my other career endeavors, I’ve grown close with many female musicians and know very well how difficult it can be for artists to cut through the clutter, to secure great promotion, to gain attention from promotional outlets & websites, and especially for female musicians to feel supported, respected and celebrated in the music industry community.

I’ve heard too many of my musician friends share that they are almost always the only woman on a bill at a show, too many women share that when they arrive at a venue carrying a guitar, the venue staff assumes they’re a merch girl or one of the male band members’ girlfriends rather than a badass musician herself! I worked to create a space that specifically spotlights these incredible women and combats misogynistic attitudes and stereotypes in a positive, productive way.

What female musicians inspire you?

So many female musicians inspire me! Many of the legends of course, like Joni Mitchell, Joan Jett, Billie Holiday, Carole King, Etta James, Madonna. Plus some of the industry’s current stars: Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Brody Dalle. My girlfriend Monte is also a female musician who inspires me; she’s an incredible guitarist & singer/songwriter and is in the process of recording the debut EP for her new project Monte. She helped to create the concept of Women That Rock and her talent and hard work is inspiring.

Really, so many of the women we feature on Women That Rock are my inspirations – each and every woman with the bravery to put her music and her voice out there through music, each and every woman with the tenacity to work towards making her dreams into reality.

Tell us a little about Women That Rock’s first live event!

Women That Rock is putting on its debut showcase at Knitting Factory Brooklyn on April 4th, 2018, and we are so excited!! Our inaugural show will feature performances by four dynamic rising female-fronted acts: Sedona, MONTE, New Myths and Petra Jarrar. The show will also feature a special DJ set by Jess Louise Dye from popular Brooklyn band High Waisted. In addition, the event will include fun Women That Rock-themed activities & raffles throughout the evening. Excited to also share that we have a bunch of amazing sponsors on board for the event – Chipotle, Guitar Center, Billy’s Bakery and Harness Magazine! These sponsors will be providing snacks, fun giveaway items and incredible prizes that we’ll be raffling off at the event – including a gorgeous guitar provided by Guitar Center! And as one of the most popular, beloved music venues in Brooklyn, The Knitting Factory provides the perfect setting for this event.

The objective of the showcase is to deliver concert-goers an unforgettable, all female-fronted show experience, to provide a platform for ladies making great music in the NYC scene to be celebrated and to show off their incredible talents, and to grow the Women That Rock community. The concert will be the first of many Women That Rock events that shine a spotlight on amazing female musical talent.

Doors open at 7:30 PM, with the first set kicking off at 8 PM. The show is all-ages and tickets can be purchased online in advance for $10 or at the door for $12. We encourage fans to purchase tickets online in advance as space is limited!

Thank you so much Andie, I’m so happy to have you on the blog, and I really admire everything you’re doing. Wishing you the best of luck with Women That Rock’s first event, I wish I could make it! Be sure to give a follow on Instagram and Facebook, and if you’re in the NYC area, consider supporting this awesome event! <3
