A lot of love at Amorette in Lancaster

Who: Amorette

Location: 401 N Prince St, Lancaster, PA 17603

Intimate. Sexy. Extravagant.

These are just a few words to describe my experience at Amorette (meaning little love), a fine dining restaurant that employs all of your senses. Amorette’s founders Thomas and Donna Ponessa have created a culinary environment unlike any other that I’ve experienced. And award-winning Chef Rikku Ó’Donnchü – where to begin. The concept of each dish was so incredibly thought-out and executed, he is truly an artist. We were served wines from expert sommeliers, and were treated like royalty.

From the presentations, to fragrances, this experience involved all five senses, so settle yourself in for our eight course meal…

But before we walked to dinner, we first checked into the historic Lancaster Marriott hotel. We could not have been greeted more warmly!

Now, onto the main course…. er, courses:

Our journey begins…
Our eight course meal

FIRST COURSE – AMUSE

The extravagant dinner kicked off with “fossilized” potatoes, caviar, and a ramen egg, which Chef Rikku injected with even more flavor.
The presentation was extraordinary, as each bite was placed delicately on a bonsai tree.

SECOND COURSE – THIS IS NOT AN ASHTRAY

Wine pairing: Truchard Bordeaux Blend 2018

Indeed this is not an ashtray. What appears to be a cigar above is actually bread, which we dipped into the “ashes”

THIRD COURSE – HEROES IN A HALF SHELL

Wine pairing: Chardonnay Pouilly Fuisse 2016

Simply put – the most exquisite oysters I’ve ever had.

FOURTH COURSE – SWEET & SOUR

Wine pairing: Ottoventi Catarratto Zibibbo 2018

The turbot fish was perhaps my favorite part of the entire meal, and that is tough to say! I love how it was presented on a grill and speared with pine needles.

FIFTH COURSE – MALLARD

Wine pairing: 2013 Château Vannières Bandol

The most divine cut of duck. For this meal they used every part of the duck – I tried duck tongue and foot!

SIXTH COURSE – BEET POT

Wine pairing: Domaine de Durban Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise 2016

Who knew beets and chocolate paired so well together?

SEVENTH COURSE – Nitro Cleanser

These palette cleansing lollipops were made right in front of us

EIGHTH COURSE – LEVITATE

Wine pairing – Banyuls “Cuvée Thérese Reig” Dom. de la Rectorie – 2017

Paging Dua Lipa. We had the opportunity to visit the kitchen and have Chef plate this decedent dessert before us.

An unforgettable sensory experience from start to finish. If you’re looking for something entirely unique and lavish for your next date night, I highly recommend booking yourself a hotel (the Marriott in Lancaster is a fantastic option and is less than a 15-minute walk from the restaurant) and indulging at Amorette. They offer a variety of dining experiences, sure to be more unforgettable than the next.
