This summer, I’m living and interning in New York City! I’m very excited to be living here in the Big Apple and to continue my goals towards a career in public relations. While I am very excited, my anxiety has also been at an all-time high.
It’s been a few weeks since I’ve arrived and I’m still getting accustomed to being here. The building where I live is just a few blocks away from the East River, so I often venture there for an after-work run. One day, I ended up staying outside for longer than I had anticipated, it was so beautiful. We often think that finding tranquility and serenity in a bustling city like New York is impossible, but sometimes that peacefulness is right down the street.
I ended up walking over a bridge and was pleasantly surprised to find a park on the other side that offered the most breathtaking views of the city. Moments like this make me realize how lucky I am to be living in an amazing place like this. If you have anxiety like I do, you understand the importance of clearing your mind and finding space to calm yourself. This can be done by going for a run, drawing a picture, or enjoying the scenery. This is how I found my peace this summer:
Even in the busiest and most hectic of places, peacefulness is all around us. You just have to be willing to look for it.
