A Weekend In Miami

Happy Friday all! This time last week, I was on a plane en route to Miami with friends. Filled with sun, surf, and even a shark, it was an amazing weekend getaway. I’ve only been to Miami once before when I was much younger, and I was looking forward to exploring this city for real this time with best friends. We opted for an Airbnb instead of a hotel, which was all of our first experience using one (save for a RV we rented through the website for a Penn State weekend). Our friend Grace previously lived in Miami, and she was our fabulous guide for the weekend. There was so much to see and do, and we definitely made the most of our weekend there.

Our days began on the white sand beaches, where the crystal blue water was the perfect temperature. And that shark mentioned earlier? There’s nothing quite like seeing a large, black shadowy figure in the water close the shoreline like all of us on the beach did. As scary as it was at first, it was extremely awesome to see.

In the morning, we enjoyed Cuban cuisine at Sazon, just a block away from the beach, where we all had our first cup of Café con leche – bold coffee served with scalded milk. It was truly one of the best caffeinated cups I’ve ever consumed.

During our first night out, we explored Miami’s Wynwood Art District. Every building is covered in incredible murals (and I love a good mural), and the sidewalks are also decorated in quotes and intricate designs. The whole area is a cool, eccentric, visual feast. We then ate at Joey’s, an Italian restaurant, where I had a phenomenal dish of gnocchi in pink sauce and a plate of bruschetta. Everyone loved their meal. Should you ever make your way to Miami, definitely check out the Wynwood Art District. Stroll around the area, and grab yourself a bite to eat for dinner for the perfect Miami evening.

The next day we made our way to South Beach where swam, slept, and sunbathed. One thing I loved about the Miami beaches is that you’re able to rent out umbrellas, tents, and lounge chairs on the beach, which is perfect for those of us who couldn’t take any of that on a plane with us.

Looks like Brit + Co liked Miami too – they shared this pic

I cannot rave enough about Izzy’s Fish and Oyster restaurant where we had dinner one evening in South Beach. We ordered a selection of delicious oysters, clams and mussels, and my meal of linguine vongole was amazing. I also had to snag a bite of their famous warm and buttery lobster roll (#blessed friends are willing to share food). The service was impeccable, and it was my favorite meal of the whole trip.

We returned home a little burnt, very well-fed, and extremely content. Miami was a little slice of heaven, and I’m looking forward to making a trip back!
