Robs10kFriends – A Philly Project

There’s nothing quite like sitting in a park on a sunny day having a chat with someone. Especially when that someone is a great conversationalist and loves meeting new people. AND what if I told you that person is on a journey to meet 10,000 people? Well, I recently met with this person – Rob Lawless is the creator of Robs10kFriends, an extremely awesome project taking place here in Philadelphia.

So how did this come about? My friend Erin told me about a project a fellow Penn Stater was embarking on – to meet 10,000 people in 10,000 hours. I was so curious about this, and wanted to become involved because a.) I wanted to support a fellow Penn Stater and b.) this was one of the coolest things I had ever heard. So I emailed Rob, and we arranged to meet in Rittenhouse Square.

Going into this, I truly didn’t know what to expect with this meeting. Would it be like an interview? Was my life interesting enough to talk about for an hour?

Rob and I had an authentic conversation, learned about each other’s lives, and the hour flew by. We talked about travel, Penn State (we have many mutual friends, yet we’ve never met!), life in Philly, and much more.

So why 10,000 people? Rob genuinely loves meeting new people and having conversations – he said it’s his favorite thing in the world to do. He was also inspired by Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000 Hours Theory; that it takes a person 10,000 hours of practice to master something.

Rob is currently meeting throughout Philadelphia, but plans to expand his project globally. So if you’re in the Philly area and have an hour for a nice conversation, meet up with Rob (shoot him an Insta DM!). I can guarantee you it will be one of the best conversations you’ll ever have.
