Philly Finds Vol. 75

Welcome back to Philly Finds, chickies.

I’m currently listening to some pink noise in an effort to help me concentrate on writing, and I have to say it seems to be working. 10/10 would recommend.

We’ll start off with some lil life updates…

As of recent, my mind had been consumed by two things, and two things only: Taylor Swift and Vanderpump Rules. It feels very much like the scene in Mean Girls where Cady says she thinks about Regina 80% of the time, and the other 20% of the time she prays that someone else will bring her up. But it’s gotten to point where it became all-too-consuming, almost like my brain was incapable of thinking of anything else. But my mind is slowly but surely allowing other types of information to enter it.

I’m also getting over a nasty sinus/respiratory infection that I simply would not and will not shut up about having. One of the extremely fun side effects is that my sense of taste and smell is totally distorted. I don’t mean that I can’t taste or smell things, because I can for the most part. It’s just that most things taste horrible. It’s slowly but surely getting better and some foods are becoming more edible, but still I wouldn’t wish this upon my worst enemy. Coffee unfortunately tastes the worse of all – oh the humanity! I haven’t been officially diagnosed with anything else yet, other than it being a sinus and respiratory infection, so it’s been a less-than-pleasant experience, and pretty scary lingering effect of this illness. And multiple tests and doctor’s visits showed it wasn’t COVID, which has also been frustrating. So needless to say, it’s been a pretty difficult few weeks health-wise. But I feel a comeback coming soon. Watch this space!

And if you haven’t read my recent interview with Philly-based signer Lane Odom here.

Now onto the finds…

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at the Arden Theatre – now until June 25th

The past few weeks have been busy with musical theater – how lucky can a gal get? Beetlejuice at the Academy of Music was hysterical, and Moulin Rouge on Broadway was spectacular (more on that later!).

And I even had the chance to make my grand return to the stage in the Arden Theatre’s current production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee as a guest speller – and you can too. All you have to do is show up an hour before the show, fill out a form, and an Arden employee will let you know if you were selected to be a guest speller in the show! The show itself is already so entertaining, and it’s even more fun with the added improvisational element.

If you’re interested in attending and maybe even want to try your hand at being a guest speller, use discount code BEE0604M at checkout.

Recent Bites:

Porcos – Located on 22nd and Washington is Porcos, serving up insanely delicious porchetta sandwiches. Afterwards, grab a sweet treat next door at Small Oven Bakeshop.

Bolo – I just had some of their delicious cocktails, but want to go back soon or their Latin American cuisine.

A Mano – Add to your next Italian BYOB dinner night

Old City Kitchen

I recently went to Old City Kitchen for a pasta making class, to celebrate the. new movie About My Father. Chef Edward Strojan led us on a culinary journey through Italy, as we rolled and shaped our pastas. They offer a ton of classes, and I certainly recommend doing one for, a date night or with friend!

Rodin Museum Garden

If you don’t know what to do for a lazy Friday summer evening in the city, head to the Rodin Garden for an evening of European été flair.

Open every Friday; May 26–August 25, the Rodin Garden Bar is open to dogs; tables are limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis; and enjoy summer cocktails and tasty small plates,

I’ve passed by several times, and it’s always just as charming.
