Philly Finds Vol. 16

Reading Terminal Market

It’s been about a month since I hit y’all with the last Philly Finds post. I am attempting in some way to keep up with the Philly Finds series, but admittedly this is a shorter post than usual.

Celebrating putting on makeup (it’s the little victories)

Typically, Philly Finds include one or two restaurant recommendations (and I’m looking forward to the day when they can be included again). I have been trying my hand (a hand which I thought was once very ill-equipped) at cooking, and I must say I’m quite proud of the meals I’ve churned out. When this is all over, come over and I’ll make you something nice.

Oh! And one more thing… I’m working on a post I am very excited to share. I wouldn’t say it’s investigative, but it’s very different than anything I’ve done before here. I’m hoping to have it up later this week, so stay tuned.

The Writings of Gina Tomaine

Gina Tomaine is the Wellness Editor of Philly Mag. Her piece Why I, Like So Many in My Generation, Can’t Make Up My Mind About Having Kids (a must read) was widely shared and conversation was rampant on social media about this topic. She is also one of the co-creators of Philly Tarot Deck, of which I am a proud owner. Her work has also been featured on The Cut – when Diane Keaton and Keanu Reeves appeared together at this year’s Oscars, Gina’s article was the first thing I thought about.

Why am I including Gina in this Philly Finds? To put it simply…. she is a bada** Philly babe and we need to talk about her more! I find her writing to be honest, vulnerable, well-researched and endearing. So if it’s not clear enough, I am a fan of Gina. Hit her with the follow on Instagram and Twitter if you haven’t already.

PHLFoodstagram’s Meal Coordinations

Samantha Schwartz, who you might know also as PHLFoodstagram, is using her platform to coordinate meals for medical workers in Philly-area hospitals. She is going to update everyone on social media, but her plan is to donate 40 pizzas from Jules Pizza to Jeanes Hospital (which is part of Temple) Thursday for lunch (at least 2 different departments including the OR). The following week, she is going to order boxed lunches from West Ave Grille. Samantha shared that she would love to continue into the following week with a new restaurant depending on donations.

How to help? She is accepting donations via Venmo, at @SamSSchwartz. I am happy to be supporting her efforts!

Greenmarket Purveying Company

Based in Bucks County, Greenmarket Purveying Company is a group of artisans that specialize in designing and hand-pouring soy candles and gifts. They also offer reed diffusers, matchboxes, personal care, and much more. They have a variety of high-end fragrance collections that spotlight different aesthetics. Everything is designed, hand-poured and made to order in their Bucks County studio. They sent me a candle which I am really looking forward to lighting. They are currently accepting orders online (just note that it may take some time to receive your item).
