Philly Finds Vol. 61

Squeezing in one more Philly Finds before signing off for vacation! I’m still recovering from last week, as I’m still full from my dinner at Her Place and still sweating from a Phillies game.

This is just a portion of the multi-course meal you get at Her Place! I wrote about my first visit to Her Place last summer here.

You can read my latest newsletter below, and you should subscribe if you haven’t already! It’s completely free, and (hopefully) it can be a little treat for you in your inbox.

If you haven’t already I hope that you’ll vote for this blog for “Best Philly Blog” in Metro Philly’s “Best of Philly” competition:

Philly Lists

Any sort of “best of” or “must do” list is sure to cause some sort of controversy or disagreements. Below are three recent Philly “round-up” lists – what do you think? Agree or disagree?

Peace Valley Lavender Farm

While the lavender had been picked for the season, a visit out to Bucks County to visit Peace Valley Lavender Farm was well worth it. If anything, it’s just so nice to get out of the sticky city, even if only for a few hours. I picked up lavender honey, lavender soda, and a bushel of lavender for my home. There’s also a body of water nearby, so you can enjoy your beverages there as we did. Definitely check their website and social media before heading out, just to be sure that they are open.

Side thought: After just typing the word lavender so much, I realized the word lavender just suits what it is so well. Gentle and lovely to say, as it is to smell and see the flower. Surely there must be a name for the phenomenon of a word feeling exactly like what the thing is (yellow is another one that comes to mind). Please tell me I’m not alone in feeling this about certain words.

The Winston on the Water

Perhaps you’ve visited The Winston in Northern Liberties for a boozy brunch or to watch a game. Well, they’ve expanded to the Delaware River and have opened The Winston on the Water. There you can enjoy cocktails, food, and some stunning waterfront views. Now, how to find this elusive spot. Simply follow the signs that lead behind the Dave and Busters and you’ll be on your way to paradise.

There will also be puppy-kissing booths at each location where guests can donate to cuddle and kiss one of the Alpha Bravo Canine pups! Guests can also enjoy a gourmet flight of hot dogs for $40 with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Alpha Bravo Canine. The menu includes:

Guests who cannot attend the event, but that wish to contribute to Dining Out for the Dogs, can make a donation now through August 22 at the White Dog Café locations by adding any amount at the bottom of their meal check or at this link which also hosts the auction for incredible prizes and experiences: https://app.galabid.com/diningoutforthedogs/items
